Thailand crowned the winner of Miss Tiffany’s 2005, the country’s transvestite annual “queen” beauty pageant, in the tourist capital of Pattaya. 20-year-old Tiptantree Ruksuutisanti won the contest, which brings transvestites - both men who dress like women and those who have sex change operations - from around the country to Pattaya.
The winner of Miss Tiffany’s traditionally competes in the Queen of the Universe pageant every year. Transvestites, known as «katoeys» in Thai, parade in gowns, answer questions and deliver routines to a packed auditorium during the contest, which is designed to improve the image of transvestites and raise money for HIV-infected children.
