Although biological man, usually dresses feminine. Vladimir Luxuria identifies herself using the English word “transgender”. The first transgendered member of Parliament in Europe will fight for transgendered community rights. Vladimir Luxuria (born Wladimiro Guadagno in Foggia, Apulia June 24, 1965), is an Italian actress, television personality, and politician. She is currently a Communist member of the Italian parliament, belonging to Romano Prodi’s L’Unione coalition. She is the first member of Parliament in Europe known to be transgender.
Luxuria moved to Rome in 1985 to study foreign languages and literature. She also began to act, using her gender ambiguity as a hallmark. She also became well-known for participating in charity organizations before making the jump to politics. Luxuria identifies using the English word “transgender” and prefers feminine pronouns, titles, and adjectives.
Vladimir Luxuria won a seat in Italian parliament in 2006. The election was not without difficulties. E.g. Clemente Mastella, chief of a more moderate party in her own coalition, called her “a ridiculous Cicciolina,” referring to a pornographic actress who had also served as an Italian MP. Alessandra Mussolini said, referring to Luxuria, that it was “better to be a fascist than a faggot”.
Her service in the Italian parliament got off to a rocky start, with right-wing politicians insisting she not be allowed to use women’s washrooms in the parliament building and calling for a third washroom to be built. “The apartheid of urinary segregation is not an issue that moves me particularly,” Luxuria said. “I don’t want the privilege of having a toilet all to myself.” |
